A federal judge has given a boost to efforts to protect the John

up wilderness to motorized recreation. The unlikely battle ground
is a 2.5 mile stretch of beach inside the Brigantine Wilderness
in New Jersey.

Due to objections raised in an appeal by Wilderness Watch, the
Forest Service has withdrawn its plan to use a helicopter to remove
a submerged plane from Fish Lake in Oregons Rogue-Umpqua
Divide Wilderness.

alarm for America's Wilderness
According to a new report the nations wilderness is not
be as "protected" as many Americans believe. An independent
panel reviewing the Wilderness stewardship programs of the Forest
Service, Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service and
Fish and Wildlife Service found serious deficiencies.
